In the West we tend to approach business and life with a wish to achieve status no matter who we walk over to get there. Often this will achieve monetary and material rewards at the expense of so much more. Honesty, trust, and integrity are put to one side in the race to get to the top. Those who maintain their integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness, and who embrace the true essence of leadership, achieve success across all aspects of their lives. We can learn to do this, but it takes time and focus. For some, short-term material gains are paramount, and the speed of their journey to the top becomes an obsession. They have no wish to invest in learning.
The mighty Bald Eagle at salmon spawning time, a time of plenty, shares the riches, ensuring all are fed by following simple rules. They demonstrate a positive self regard and regard for their peers, even when their peers are often their enemies.
Perhaps if we reflect on what success really means, follow a few simple rules, learn to respect others as ourselves, then we will truly achieve.
