HistoryThe Rome Chapter was founded in Rome on September 29, 2002, under the aegis of the Geneva Chapter and with the auspicious presence of Mr. Paul Genton, MCEI International Chairman. Italian government authorities finally granted the Rome Chapter by-laws formal legal approval on January 27, 2003, which date which marked the official start of the Chapter’s activities. ActivitiesIn September 2003, the Rome Chapter hosted the MCEI World Congress at the magnificent “Hadrian Temple.” This Congress was attended by approximately a hundred MCEI Chapter members from Brussels, Geneva, Melbourne, Osaka, Taiwan, Tokyo, and other locations. For details, please see http://www.mcei.org/en/next.events.asp?id=437 The Congress proper was followed by a sightseeing tour of the region from Rome to Naples, which gave participants the opportunity to initiate new network relationships and reinforce existing ones. Following the World Congress, only informal meetings took place during 2004 mostly covering communication and marketing subjects of interest to the founding members. Following this, the regular informal meetings of the Rome Chapter were supplemented by a special event on Saturday May 28, 2005, at the Hotel Méridienne in Palestrina, only 25 km from Rome, where Umberto Clia discussed marketing and tourism in the Rome area. Additional formal meetings are also planned in the 2005 Events’ Program, including the next Ordinary General Assembly. MembershipMCEI is open to a very diverse group of professional leaders, regardless of the specific industrial, commercial, or service segment of the economy they operate in, as long as they are involved or interested in marketing and marketing communication. First and foremost, MCEI is a global forum intended to allow members to effectively share information and experiences all year around. Only individuals are eligible for membership, and there is no provision for corporate or other business memberships. Thus the membership remains valid even in the event of a change in the member’s professional or employment status. Application for membership, complete with personal details and professional history, should be addressed directly to the President of the Chapter, who will submit it to the Board for review and possible approval. A Committee is negotiating to found other chapters in Italy, with particular focus on Siena and Milano. Anyone interested in joining these new chapters as a “founding member” should please contact Mr. Eugenio Cannarsa, who is in charge of the Rome Chapter during its transition period. Mr. Cannarsa has also been a faithful and active member of the Geneva Chapter since 1990.
